PaperVision 3D looks amazing!
With Flash 9 came the speed to do simple 3D. Several started to create their own 3D engine and PaperVision 3D is the project that shows most promise as of today. Check out these demos - they simply look amazing!
Some months ago, John Grden published a couple nice demos that really proved that real 3D in Flash was not a dream and what difference AS3 and the new AVM makes. For Grant Skinners recent presentation at FlashForward MacWorld, John put together a demo showing a 3D space battle with X-wings and Tie Fighters flying around in realtime. (He recently updated it so that you can control the X-wing yourself).Ricardo Cabello has taken these experiments further. Just take a look at this odd-looking "ball", this 3D tunnel panorama or this architectural model with shading! Another nice example of a 3D calendar can be found here. Click the small button in the lower right corner to go fullscreen. If you want to try PaperVision yourself, it's one of the many Open Source projects hosted at osflash.org. Once more people get to play around with this, we can expect amazing 3D in Flash...
PS: if you're "oldschool" or "hardcore", you may want to check out http://www.flashscene.org and their 32Kb Flash demo competition. Great looking stuff given the extremely low filesize!
