1/4 Billion Flash Players!

Tonight, the Flash Player passed the 1/4 Billion mark! The Flash-hype sweeps the web, and there's hundreds of new sites using Flash every day.

For some time, The Flash plugin has been the widest distributed piece of software in the history. Currently the number of downloaded plugins increase by more than 10 million each day.

According to the latest Macromedia statistics, more than 99% of all Worldwide Web users can now experience Flash-content without the need to download the plugin. This figure includes both version 3 and 4 of the plugin. For version 4 alone, the percentage is almost 70%, and it's constantly increasing. The Flash Player is distributed with all AOL, Netscape and Internet Explorer browsers, and even supports the popular Opera Browser. The player also supports a wide range of OS's as all Mac and Windows versions, Linux, Irix and Sun. Pocket PC (former Windows CE), Palm OS and many other handheld OS's will soon be added to this list, as well as mobile phones from Nokia.
