Ariaware RIA Platform Goes Open Source

Ariaware, the RIA consultancy headed by Flash community stalwart Aral Balkan, has announced that the latest version of their Ariaware RIA Platform (ARP) will be open source.

This is the first best-practices, pattern-based RIA platform to be released as open source. ARP makes it possible to quickly create maintainable and scalable RIAs and allows developers and development teams to overcome the initial stumbling block of how to structure their applications.

ARP is written completely in ActionScript 2.0 and supports form-based RIA development with Flash MX 2004 Professional Forms or the lightweight ARPForm alternative. ARP also supports Flex development and allows for the easy migration of Flash projects to Flex and vice-versa.

When asked what prompted this altruistic gesture, Aral replied, "Flash-based RIAs are being held back by the lack of an open, mature, meticulously documented and lightweight structural framework. By making ARP open-source, we are filling this need. We also believe that in sharing ARP with the rest of the Flash community, we are actually helping to build the industry for the benefit of us all."
