ASP and PHP Flash DB Extensions

Doing a lot of prototype work with databases? Flash DB Extensions for ASP and PHP is a commercial Flash CS3 panel that can ease the development and decrease time spent setting up tedious scripts for database connection, select, update, insert and deletes. Not only does it write the serverside code and save it to disk, but it'll also create the required AS2/AS3 code and insert it straight into the Actions panel.

Flash DB Extensions is an easy to use "plugin" for Flash CS3. After installing, you'll get a panel that you can open up in the Flash CS3 IDE. Just create a new FLA, click the a button to generate PHP or ASP files, edit the credentials in the files, upload them to the server and you are ready to go. You don't even need to write the Actionscript code either. The plugin comes with a set of .as classes that abstracts the complexity of server interactions for you. To write SELECT, UPDATE, INSERT and DELETE statements, just click the appropriate button and all the required code will be pasted in the actionscript panel in Flash. Fill in things like table names and queries and you are ready to go.

Another nice thing about the setup is that the code is interchangeable between the ASP and PHP by simply changing the class import from asp.* to php.*. If the client changes their server platform mid-project, you can easily swap to any of these two popular scripting languages. Still doing legacy code? Both AS2 and AS3 is supported. The price isn't bad at all, only $20. You'll probably save that from the first time you use the plugin. Certainly on our "nice to have" list!
