CS3 Announced

Has it been 18 months already? Apparently so, because Adobe just announced the soon to be released Adobe Creative Suite 3, including the much anticipated integration of former Macromedia products into a now fully-complete design suite.

It seems like only yesterday (and it actually was yesterday), that I was having to individually export layers from Photoshop® and then import them into Flash®, but it looks like that process is coming to a close with the shipping date of CS3 Web Edition to be sometime in April of 2007 with an estimated cost of about $1599 for the premium edition and $999 for the standard edition.

And it looks like with the merger, the 2 main goals in mind for the new CS3 are integration and work flow improvements with some of the highlights being:

  • Consistent user interface design across most CS3 products, with the inclusion of iconic mode that enables more screen realistate while still providing functional layout. Also, a consistent icon scheme across all drawing applications, (i.e. Illustrator®, Photoshop and Flash).

  • Welcome back tab dragging from panel set to panel set for personalizing your panel groups.

  • Photoshop and Illustrator importing directly into Flash.

  • Photoshopand Fireworks® integration with Dreamweaver.

  • CSS layouts in Dreamweaver®.

  • Integration of the Spry framework directly into Dreamweaver

  • RIA layout prototyping with multy-page support in Fireworks.

These are just a few of the many new features in CS3 Look for more detailed reviews, starting with Flash as the day progresses.

But for now, check out the press release here and a walkthrough of some of what can expect from CS3 here
