Flash in toys?

Yesterday, Macromedia announced their results for the 4th financial quarter and the MX strategy has been very successful. The presentation of the results contains several gems.

Rob Burgess, Macromedia Macromedia is now making money and they keep closing new deals on Flash Player distribution. Just a month ago, they announced that the Flash Player would be distributed as part of Japanese DoCoMo's 3G mobile phones. In the Q4 presentation, Rob Burgess reveals that they have now closed a deal with Leap Frog, a maker of electronic children's toys. Another thing revealed: FlashCom will be integrated with a program recently acquired by Macromedia called Breeze. Breeze is an online presentation technology utilizing Flash for delivery. The Q4 presentation is made with Breeze and so is virtually every presentation from Macromedia these days.

Burgess also reveals details on a new server technology code named 'Royale' that was previewed on FlashForward. The product will allow you to make a SWF movie based on information in a XML document (did I hear SVG competition?), databinding using SOAP, ActionScript and CSS! So this will not replace Cold Fusion in any way, but it will probably be a sort of Generator replacement? Details are really sparse but this sounds interesting and the product is referred to as an Application Server. In the future, Macromedia are basing virtually all their revenue streams on Flash in some way, so as a Flash developer you can be sure that you will never be bored or without a job...
