Flash Video Kit
Today, Macromedia announced the availability of The Macromedia Flash Video Kit, a simple solution for Dreamweaver developers and others to add Flash video to their webssites.
The kit is bundle of things that make publishing Flash video easier. A Dreamweaver FLV extension, Squeeze 3.5 Light, a Trial account for VitalStream and a PDF Video Primer. The first two are the real value. The next two are "nice to have if you need them". This product is based on user feedback from Dreamweaver users that see that Flash video is the best for the end users since virtually everyone has the Flash plugin.
The FLV extension will make embedding FLV's a breeze. The extension supports several skinning options
as mentioned earlier on Flashmag
. Sorensen Squeeze 3.5 Lite supports the most important features of the full Squeeze program. Both 1 and 2 pass video compression, variable bitrate, DV capture and more are included. Some of the things left out are output file size constraint, templates, stitching for large SWF files, cropping, Audio/video filters and some more professional features. This version should do for most, but the advanced users.
The Video Kit is $99, but for a limited time, you can get it for free if you upgrade your Dreamweaver to the full Studio MX04 package. The upgrade is either $599, $499, $399 or $299, depending on what product you upgrade from. The Flash Video Kit will be available at the Macromedia Store
for $99 on or about September 1, 2004. If you already have Studio you will be able to purchase the kit for $49 (also for a limited time).
