FlashEff competition

Several years ago, text effects was part of every Flash Developers arsenal. As time went by, the use of these faded a bit, but there is still tools around that allow you to make cool text animations. FlashEff by JumpEye Components are one of these and they are now hosting a competition where you can win up to $2500 by just playing with text effects.

Watching the text effects gallery at FlashEff shows that text effects have come a long way since it's golden age. 3D rotation and bitmap effects like glows, smoke and more really has taken this a step further. Jumpeye has a rather unique licensing model as well that is maybe better suited for the agencies than the single developer, but this is professional stuff. They offer this as a component that is licensed on a free or "Premium" basis. The free version is limited to only a few effects, whereas the Premium version supports unlimited effects. The Premium version has either a monthly or unlimited license ($49 / $279) so it's not all that cheap, but if you need this kind of effects, it'll pay itself quickly.

FlashEff also has an SDK for developing custom text effects and by playing around with this, you could win yourself up to $2500. Submissions are open until October 31st 2008. Each winner will get $2000 cache [ed: I assume they mean cash?] and $500 in discount coupons to be spent on JumpeyeComponents.com.
