Flashmagazine on Twitter

Flashmagazine on Twitter

Do you use Twitter? Twitter is a micro-blogging platform that let's you stay in touch with your friends and colleagues. Now you can use it to follow the Flash community as well and receive links to News, Articles, Reviews and Tutorials the second we post them.

Flashmagazine has worked on mobile phones since 2001 and we've always offered an RSS feed that you can use to stay up to date. Today we add a new service - Twitter notifications. Twitter has taken off completely this last year and many seem to have a problem understanding why. Twitter is called a microblogging platform. You can only send messages that are up to 140 characters in length. This limits what you can say and prevents it from becoming a blog, but also makes it easier to maintain than a blog. Because of this limitation, you don't use it as a blog but rather a way to stay up to date on friends and colleagues and what they do in between talking to them.

Why is this interesting? Twitter offers a great way to stay up to date with people that you know and care about. I know that my friend and cowriter David was up early today and that he loves talking about food. I know exactly when Aral Balkan starts his QIK-client to do live blogging from Brighton Beach (and I can even chat with him while watching!). I also know if my buddy Paulo is struggeling with some code - something too small to post in his blog, but maybe I know the solution? This isn't limited to people, if you're a Mac-addict, you may want to follow the MacRumours Twitter account. How about following your local Flash Platform User Group? Twitter is a whole new way to stay up to date and it's only as public as you want yourself.

When you set up Twitter, you decide if you want your Tweets (messages) to be public or by invitation. You can update using the Twitter.com homepage or use one of the many Twitter clients out there. You can also stay up to date with news and services, much like you would do with an RSS reader. The difference is in the immediacy of Twitter. If you've set Twitter up to follow Flashmagazine and you turn on device notifications, you can be notified the very second we post a story. This is an easy way to stay up to date on what's happening in the Flash community. Just click here to start stalking Flashmagazine or your friends.
