All we can say is the future for online games look bright! The Alternativa 3D engine screams now that it's been ported to Flash Player 10. Even at a 1920 by 1200 pixel resolution, we're getting 20-30 frames per second! A first person shooter running in a browser with this quality is just unheard of!
The Alternativa team is impressing again. Just two days after the beta player was launched the engine have been rewritten to use the new features and the demos now really show what is possible with the new player. If you've not seen these demos before, the Bunker Demo is a small level from a first person shooter. When testing the Bunker demo on a gaming PC with a solid graphics card (GeForce 8800GTS) running at 1920 by 1200 pixel resolution, the demo is just as playable as before. This is the first real Acid-test for the beta Flash Player and we're truly impressed!
The Temple demo is a smaller 3D model with realtime shadow casting. Even at massive resolutions, we're getting around 30 fps. There is some visible "tearing" of triangles on certain graphics cards (MacBook Pro), but this is probably artifacts of the beta player as we are not seeing this on other graphics cards. Also keep in mind that this is now using the GPU on your graphics card. The faster GPU, the better results. And - reading what Tinic Uro writes about the new GPU mode, we think even more impressive demos will arrive shortly (if used properly). Expect the cool games to happen in the browser in the future, not just the desktop!
