IE 5.5 and Flash does XML!

Yesterday Macromedia announced that the upcoming IE 5.5 will be able to author Flash-components via XML.

At Microsoft Professional Developers Conference, Orlando in Florida, Bill Gates demonstrated this new feature.

The authoring is done via an IE component called ViewLink that enables encapsulation and rendering of content created in an HTML Components (HTC) file.

It's not possible do do all the stuff you usually do with Flash with this component, but you can place predesigned, parameterized Flash content and define that behavior's content and appearance via information in the HTML file.

The nifty, short name of this beauty is The Macromedia Flash enterprise kit for Internet Explorer 5.5 and it includes: Organizational chart, Calendar, Bar chart, Horizontal menu, Vertical menu, Site maps, News ticker and a Pie chart template to get you started. Download it today at Macromedia.com
