Is Macromedia selling software at all?

Claus Wahlers asks this rhetoric question in his blog. Why you may ask? According to the last quarter figures, Macromedia are indeed doing well financially.

Macromedia just presented the numbers for the first 3 months of 2005 and they are doing well. Very well ideed. They are up 25 % in net revenues from 2003. Claus question is not about these numbers, but concerning the Macromedia online Store, where his standards compliant Mozilla Firefox browser is unable to render the store properly. We could not reproduce this bug using the latest version of FireFox, so Macromedia may already have addressed this issue, or it could be one of the many rendering bugs in browsers.

Macromedias online store has other problems too. About a year ago, Macromedia followed other software vendors in creating an affiliate program. Affiliate programs allow community sites like Flashmagazine to place adverts for Macromedia software, and then get a kickback if the ad gives a sale.

The Macromedia Affiliate Program has not worked properly since the beginning of April "due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our reasonable control". If you are not paying out commissions to resellers (there are quite a few) for 5 months - is that still "beyond your control"? If you cannot notice something is seriously wrong for such an amount of time and then fix it - would you notice if you lost your left foot? Isn't sales more or less related to income? We're just wondering...
