Macromedia Director 10.1 Updater

Macromedia just released an updater to their Director authoring program, as well as the ShockWave Player.

Just as with Dreamweaver and Flash, Director has been very hard to use due to all the unexplainable crashes and the crappy panel code. Some of the problems are adressed in a new fix released from Macromedia this week.

With Dreamweaver and Flash, a crash is seldom severe and you can usually just open your FLA or XHTML after restarting the program. With Director, this is another story. A crash usually leads to a corrupt source file and a lot of work lost unless you save with a new name very often. This has been the bane of Director programmers since the program were first launched, so anything that makes the program crash less often is very welcome!

Overall, the stability is improved in many aspects. A few memory leaks related to the Flash and DVD are fixed and Web services can now be accessed via Flash assets in Director/projectors/Shockwave. Alltogether, nine bugs related to Flash in Director is fixed, but a few remain. We've been working on a Director review for quite some time now. Expect it some time during the next weeks.
