Macromedia Flash Detection Kit

Macromedia have updated their Flash Detection Kit. The download is free and all the usual stuff is in there including the requisite Dreamweaver behaviour. The big change this time is in manner in which the detection is done.

Gone is the mish-mash of Javascript and VB script and in is a prodominantly Flash based system. There is still some Javascript in there for those devices still not running a player.

Version information has been in the player since printing was introduced in the later Flash 4 player. Looking through the FLA for the Flash detection you'll find it well commented and more importantly you should find it easy to extend.

What it doesn't do is deal properly with sub-versions of the v6 player so you'll probably want to add your own code in there to catch all those nasty players with security holes in them.

All good stuff. Go get it now.
