Macromedia FlashPaper
With the recent launch of Contribute 2 Macromedia has introduced FlashPaper; a vector document format clearly aimed as a long term challenger to Adobe's PDF.
Launched last year, Contribute is Macromedia's content management system. It replaced the ill-fated SiteSpring and is essentially a modified version of Dreamweaver. It has a feature set geared towards updating web content rather than development. From a strategic perspective this is an interesting development as Flashpaper represents the first of many Flash application formats. These Flash files will not only run in the browser but will inevitably run within Macromedia's forthcoming application browser: Central.
Although the Contribute launch features make a big deal of Mac OS X support, the FlashPaper export feature is limited to Windows 2000 and XP.
