Macromedia.com beta 2

Macromedia have redesigned their website yet again. They got a lot of feedback from the lauch last week and many things have been improved. The only thing we really miss is right-clicking to open in a new window...

The first version of the site had a size of 255Kb. This is now trimmed down to just 116Kb. Not bad, but some features had to go. The Arrow-meny that gave you access to the whole site from the cover page has been removed. We guess this is due to the applications overall size or that this is such a new thing that few users actually used it. Most of the data found in it is however still available in the dropdowns so there was really no reason to remove it? A minor rebuild and 2-4 Kb extra graphics and code could have kept it there.

All the elements of the pages now load faster upon return, so the overall experience is much better. One major problem remain: "Power users" usually browse the web with multiple browser windows open, right-clicking links to open them in a new window. This feature is so commonly used that these users find Flash application pages like mm.com annoying. How come MM developers never thought of this? They must surely do this themselves? Now we have to wait for Macromedia to add a "Open in new window"-option to the Flash Player upon right-clicking a link. If they add this plus textflow around images really soon, it will only be 12-18 months until we can really start replacing HTML pages with Flash applications...
