(phewww what a title...) The task of putting live video of ordinary people on MTV Canada proved an interesting challenge. The solution became a combination of Flash Media Server (AS1), Flash client (AS2) and control interface (Flex AS3).
Combining three generations of Flash with a TV signal isn't all too easy, but the workflow they managed to build here was amazing. In the end product, users would go to a website and initiate their video feed using FlashComm. The host of the TV show had an interface where they can drag and drop users on top of a live TV feed in addition to managing and moderating an ongoing, overlayed fully featured chat.
