Moho 5

Some months ago, Lost Marble finished a new version of their very capable animation software Moho. They just forgot to tell everyone what a cool animation program this is...

Moho isn't exactly the most profiled tool for creating animations, but it surely is very capable of competing with other software. The program has all the required tools for drawing, inking, animating and outputing animations to both Quicktime, AVI and SWF. Here are some of the neatest features we found:

- When animating characters, you may stick them to a bone-system (skeleton) with inverse kinematics. This makes character animation just like working with puppets. Drag the arm, and other joints will follow according to limitations. This is a major timesaver for anyone doing character animation.
- Using Moho, you can create big swooping camera movements trough a virtual stage consisting of both 2D Flash and 3D elements.
- Particle systems can create water, smoke, and swarming effects.
- Moho is available not only for Windows and Mac OS but also Linux!
- Layer masking, Motion blur, auto-lipsync, third party extensions, full scripting language that will allow you to build custom tools. The list goes on and on.
Be sure to browse The Gallery when you visit the Moho site. Some amazing stuff are being made with this tool.

The weird thing about Moho is how poorly it is promoted. The guys over at Lost Marble are either too busy to promote their tool or they must have lost a marble or two? They don't tell sites like Flashmagazine about a new release and they barely mention the event on their own news page. Most any other company would make a big button or banner linking straight to the list of new features. Over at the Lost Marble site, you have to click the About Moho link, scroll down the page, click the Features-button and then click the link leading to the list of new features. Putting that link somewhere on the news-page would be an obvious thing to do for most any business-oriented company. Just a few adjustments here, and Lost Marble would probably sell a lot more software... Flashmagazine will try to review Moho soon.

Anyway: check them out. They do look both promising and interesting to Flash animators!
