MX Developer Resource Kit
Today, Macromedia announced the availability of a CD ROM filled with components and articles for developers. The kit will be the first in a quarterly series of CDs containing goodies for Macromedia Developers.
The CD is filled with content for DreamWeaver and Flash developers with the main focus on components for these products. The CD also marks a shift for Macromedia. Until now, Macromedia have given away components for free, but some of these components can only be found on this CD. By doing this, Macromedia want to help create a commercial market for components.
One component that has been high on many users wishlist is the DataGrid component, allowing for easy retrieval and manipulation of data. Such components can easily become big, but according to Macromedia sources, this component is built so that it can be split depending on use. The DataGrid is rich on features (scrolling, paging, Flash Remoting, customization, editable cells, and custom cell renderers) and building such products do take a lot of time. Macromedia has spent almost 3 months on the DataGrid, so this component alone might justify the $99 price for the CD.
In addition, the CD contains a set of media components, Flash UI Components Set 3 (the first two are available from
the Exchange for free) and the 7 most popular components from
the Exchange. In addition, there is an archive of articles from
The Designer & Developer Center at macromedia.com. If you're a DreamWeaver user, 3 extensions plus articles are also on the CD. All in all this sounds like a great bundle for serious Flash developers.
