New Flash Player available

For the last months, Macromedia have been working hard on a new release of the Flash Player. This Player will fix many known bugs plus add some new features.

First of all, this is the first public release of the Linux Flash Player 6. Until now, Linux users have had to settle for Flash 5 content. Some of the new features are masking of device fonts (only for programmed masks), a new command called "AllowScriptAccess" will improve on information security, detection of the Flash plugin on the Server-side and customized HTTP headers. Intel P4 users (PC) will see some impressive speed increases but ActionScript heavy movies on all platforms should see a performance increase.

This player follows multiple builds with minor bugs (r40 in July 2002, r47 in August 2002). The current build numbers are r65 for Windows and Macintosh Classic, r67 for Macintosh OS X and r69 for Linux. The standalone players that are used for creating projectors and displaying Flash movies inside the authoring environment, was updated a while ago. If you have not already updated, do so from this link.
