Screenweaver HX

Screenweaver HX

Nicolas Cannasse keeps on extending his haXe programming language and the latest addition is a way to directly export desktop applications using the Open Source project Screenweaver.

Screenweaver was the first software to use an ActionsScript-style approach to creating Projectors. It got famous in a short amount of time and then just disappeared. Nobody knew the exact reason why it disappeared until it's creator Edwin van Rijkom all of a sudden resurfaced with a blog and a plan to turn the software into an Open Source project. Now Edwin has partnered with Nicolas Cannasse to make a way to output Executable files using the haXe programming language.

haXe is a high-level object-oriented programming language mainly focused on helping programmers develop Websites and Web applications. It's very alike actionscript, it's a cross platform solution (Linux, OSX, Windows) and it is a GNU based Open Source project initiated by Nicolas Cannasse. Nicolas is the guy behind the MTASC compiler now used in several Open Source AS2 authoring soltions such as FlashDevelop and SEPY.
According to Edwin van Rijkom, "GUIs can be made using either haXe, Flash or Flex; both ActionScript 2 and 3 are supported. All application back-end code needs to be written in haXe. Since haXe is a strong typed language that comes with an extensive standard library for carying out typical back-end opperations, such as database connectivity and file io, it makes a perfect platform for application back-ends."

Screenweaver HX runs on OSX and Windows. It works with Flash Player 8/9. The OSX player runs native on both PPC and Intel Macs.
