Sorenson Squeeze 4 announced

Sorenson has announced a new version of their popular video compression suite, now with support for even more formats.

Squeeze 4 will ship in the third calendar quarter of 2004. The new program has a redesigned UI and will support direct capture of DV footage. With the addition of the "classic" formats MPEG1, MPEG2 and the new Windows Media 9 series, Squeeze is more complete than ever.

As before, the program will be available as either a complete suite or in specialized versions for Flash and MPG4. The Flash version outputs only FLV and SWF, but it should support the same inputs as the suite. Adding support for MPEG1 and 2 may seem "oldfashioned" since these are old formats, but there's a reason. The previous version of Squeeze did not support MPG as an input format, so you had to find clever ways around this. If you have ever received a .MPG source file from a client, you'll know the tedious use of various shareware programs, just to rip out the MPG contents to something that Squeeze can work with.

Better quality through High Definition (HD) encoding is also part of the suite (for AVC/H.264, mpeg-1, mpeg-2, mpeg-4, QuickTime, RealMedia, and Windows Media 9).
