Adobe demos AIR on mobile at Mobile World Congress

Adobe evangelists have been teasing their Twitter followers the last days and today we got to see what they are excited about - AIR running applications on Android devices.

The week before Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, all the evangelists got new toys - brand new Android based mobile phones. Many thought this would be to show Flash Player 10.1 running but today we finally get to see what this is all about. Adobe's plan is to get AIR onto as many devices as possible, allowing easy updating of the runtime and proper OS-level access so you can do many of the things native app developers can do such as read and write files and access the special features in the phone. Check out a demo below by kevin Hoyt.

Adobe also has other devices running Flash to show at MWC, including a cute new mini-device by Dell called the Mini 5 Tablet.

There's also other videos on AdobeTV showing the HTC HD2 and Nexus One so go check them out for more mobile goodness. There's also videos of the CEOs from nVidia, RIM, Qualcomm, Google, Motorola, HTC, NTT Docomo, ARM, Palm, STMicroelectronics, Broadcom and Intel talking about how Flash fits into their platform and why they're part of the Open Screen Project. Don't miss this new Doc on authoring for mobile devices. Written by Adobe expert Thibault Imbert, it's full of great advice on how to optimize content for mobile delivery and you can also use this to get a performance boost in your other Flash applications.
