Commented Flash documentation from Actionscript.com
The nice people at ActionScript.com have made a great effort to put together an online ActionScript documentation, containing comments and examples.
If you are a PHP coder, you will nod when hearing this. Commented documentation is just so much more valuable than the kind of documentation that comes with Flash. Sure, the Flash documentation works well and it's integrated in the program, but it is seldom updated and has very few examples. The examples are often so simple that they are of little or no use. If you want to see how documentation should be done, browse to
PHP.net and browse the documentation.
After merging with Allaire, Macromedia have used a system called LiveDocs for their online documentation. The LiveDocs cover just a few of Macromedia's products, they are poorly organized and with every new version, they put out a new set of documents and thus missing out on resourceful comments from users. We have discussed documentation with Macromedia officials at several occasions, but they totally fail at understanding the importance/brilliance of php.net and how their documentation works (Five seconds searching and you get what you need to know). Online Flash documentation has been needed for a long time, so a big hand for ActionScript.com and the people making this possible.
We hope that they will complete this effort and that people from the community will contribute great examples! With time, the documentation will hopefully be a bit better organized? It is great to browse by subject like it's now, but they should also add a search function and some index listings to make this really usable.
