Flash Platform website

A new section is up on Macromedia.com, highlighting Flash as develpment platform. Macromedia is working hard to teach enterprise and government users that Flash is not just a browser plugin for games and animation, but a whole family of professional tools for solving problems.

The site has Breeze presentations for key markets such as Telecom, Finance, Education and Government. The presentations are executive presentations full of marketing language and should contain lots of ammo for those in your organisation that sell Flash to clients. The site also has a great Whitepaper by Kevin Lynch listing all the flavors the Flash Player comes in such as Flash Lite, Macromedia Central, the classic Flash Player plugin for Browsers and some custom players for other devices. (e.g. We didn't know that a Yamaha Grand Piano has a Flash Player? That's pretty cool!).

The paper also explains the various server products Macromedia has (Flex, FlashComm, FlashCast) and various ways to produce Flash content (Flash/Flex autoring tools, Captivate, Flash Paper). Most of the things in the paper is old news to seasoned developers, but there is also some new info regarding the upcoming versions of Flex, Flash and FlashComm. RichInternetBlog has a good writeup on these.

All in all, the site is a great overview of all things Flash, so give this URL to clients or newcomers in your company for a quick intro.
