Flex 3 will target Flash Player 9

Flex evangelist Ted Patrick today revealed an important detail on his blog: Flex 3 will target Flash Player 9 to get the broadest reach.

The resoning for targeting Flash Player 9 is that by the time you can download Flex 3, the player will have reached well above critical mass (90% or more than 1 Billion computers). This will definetly be appealing to enterprises considering Flex as their Rich Internet Application technology. At the upcoming 360Flex conference, Ted will sneak some of the new features as well so if you are in the San Jose area (California, USA) early March this is the place to be. Ted's payoff sounds really promising "Hold onto your hat, you ain't seen nothing yet!". If you want in early, apply for the Flex 3 Beta here.

Another gem from the blogs today, Ryan Stewart interviews Mike Downey about the upcoming Apollo runtime. Mike just stepped down from his position as Product Manager for Flash to take on the same role for Apollo, so he is the 'official source' for Apollo information from Adobe. Well worth a read.
