img2swf: dynamic image loading

Since the release of Flash MX we have been able to load an image file into Flash at run time. Due to codec and player size issues though, this has been limited to files in JPEG format. img2swf changes all that.

img2swf is a server application developed by the team at Stromberg Larsen ApS in Denmark. The software converts a range of image formats to swf at runtime, allowing them to be dynamically loaded into Flash via the loadMovie command.

The following formats are supported:
- gif (both static, animated** and transparent)
- png (with transparency)
- jpg (both progressive and non-progressive)
- bmp
- tiff
- ico

The source image can reside anywhere on the web, and the implimentation is as simple as prefixing the URL of the img2swf server application to the image URL. A free trial will be available.
