Macromedia provides one-stop for updates
Having a hard time keeping your Macromedia software current? Macromedia have just made it easier for you.
A listing of all current updates is now available on Macromedia's website. Just check by here once in a while and you'll stay updated - almost... This new page is great, but for Flash developers to stay current, more is to be desired. There are now so many updaters available for Flash MX that a separate page could be very handy.
Here's a list of what you should download to keep your Flash MX installation current:
1.
New Documentation
2.
Flash Remoting updater
3.
Flash Player 6 (6.0.79)
4.
Standalone Flash Player 6
5.
FreeHand MX, Swift 3D and Toonboom readers for Flash MX
In addition, you'll probably want updated components for UI, graphing, Remoting and FlashCom, just to be sure that you don't run into problems.
The current version of all Flash players are 6.0.79. If you have not updated the standalone player that comes with Flash MX, you're probably still using version 6.0.21. This player version contains several bugs, but it is also quite well distributed so it can be practical to keep it for testing purposes. Where do you go to get the updated player?
The Download section of MM's Flash support will give you the latest version, but how about the previous version or the one before that? There is an
alternate listing page for Flash and Shockwave players, but it contains only the latest build of each major player. How about adding the initial and latest copy of every major player version to this section? That would make life easier for programmers debugging errors...
