New Mobile Developer Program

Today at the Macromedia MAX conference, Macromedia unveiled a new developer program and a more detail about where they are headed in the mobile market.

More and more devices support Flash Lite 1.1 Some months ago, Macromedia released the specs for the updated 1.1 version of Flash Lite. Macromedia had listened to the developers carefully, so Flash is a lot more usable on phones supporting the 1.1 spec. For a long time, Macromedia has talked about Flash on devices and the FlashCast service as something just around the corner. Info on Macromedias plans for the mobile market has been hard to find.

A little while ago, a mobile devcenter was added. Todays news is the url macromedia.com/mobile. Here you can find resources and information on who has licenced the player, who makes compatible handsets and what you can do to take part in this new area for content developers using Flash. The maps shows that Macromedia has a lot of ground to cover. All the major handset manufacturers are on board, but very few operators. In Europe, T-Mobile is the only partner selling Flash Lite handsets and services. T-Mobile USA is not listed as a partner. Few (if any) other operators are listed for the western markets. This is in sharp contrast to the Japanese market, where all the big operators use the player to provide a better experience to their users.

At MAX, Macromedia also revealed a developer program as an easy way to get the information you need. Support, extra information and help, training and access to test servers are some of the benefits.
