New player show massive speed increase

Our first tests of the new Flash 7 Beta Player show a massive speed increase for drawing vectors and running scripts.

During the FlashForward conference last week, the new player was shown off. The speed increases shown were significant, but now you can test it yourself. Using these simple test files, we found that bitmap drawing is slightly faster, but vectors display almost 40% faster! Our ActionScript test doing 2500 search and replaces on a text string runs up to 50% faster in the new Player. This will do wonders for many Flash developers. (The tests were done on a PC, so send us your results for OSX)

Another neat detail: the mouse wheel will now work in any text field without the need of JavaScripts.

The most obvious bug in the beta player happens while loading text files. On our machine, the player pops up an error message without there actually being anything wrong. The file loads as expected, and the content displays as it should. Clicking the continue-button in the "Submit bug dialogue" does nothing . Except from these findings, our first impression is that Macromedia has done their homework properly.
Try testing yourself
