On2 Flix 8 Ships

On2 are the creators of the great new video codec that ships with Flash 8. Now they've released their own tool for producing Flash Video, just like Sorenson did.

When Sorenson made the old video codec in Flash MX, they backed it with Squeeze, adding more features than the ones available in the Flash Authoring Tool. On2 does the same with Flix 8. They recently took over the Flix product line from Wildform. Flix 8 is available for both Mac and PC and comes in three flavors: Pro, Standard and Exporter. The Flix Exporter offers professional quality FLV and SWF video output from multiple video applications that support the use of Quicktime plugins, including Discreet Media Cleaner, Canopus Pro Coder, Quicktime Pro, Adobe After Effects, and Apple Final Cut.

Flix Standard offers just about the same features you'll find built into Flash, whereas the Pro version has all the goodies such as Alpha-channel video, cropping, batch encoding, overlays, exporting projectors, two-pass encoding, deinterlacing, filters and much more. The list of features in Flix is long and it surely rivals Sorensons Squeeze for Flash. The Windows version of Flix Pro also supports a couple interesting extra features such as Export Linux projectors and Windows screensavers. Not too bad considering that there still is no Flash 8 plugin available for Linux.
