Revised Actionscript Dictionary

Macromedia has recently posted a revised Actionscript Dictionary (in PDF format). Robert Penner has taken a look at what's new:

New entries include XML.ignoreWhite, else if, ASfunction, LoadVariablesNum, UnloadMovieNum, PrintAsBitmapNum, PrintNum, Object.__proto__ and undefined. Unfortunately, XML.contentType failed to appear, and XML.ignoreWhite neglected to mention that it works only after Flash 5 Player build 41. Corrections of typos and code errors were noticed in getProperty, setProperty, #include, XML.toString, targetPath, Date.getDay, Color.setTransform and Color.setRGB. However, some typos remain. The appendices were noticeably absent.

Overall, many helpful revisions from Macromedia, despite several omissions and typos. The reworded explanations, improved code examples, and new entries are much appreciated. Nevertheless, Colin Moock's 'Actionscript: The Definitive Guide' is still the ultimate source for detail, examples, and accuracy. As a final note, I hope Macromedia generates new HTML files and posts them for download, so we can upgrade Flash's built-in documentation.
