Feel that AIR is too limited? Want to open files, execute applications, capture the screen, connect to databases, run from CD or even execute custom DLLs? Check out Shu, a new entry to the Flash projector scene.
We already have SWF wrappers, so why not an AIR wrapper as well? The Shu player has a limited feature set for a projector tool, but backed by the capabilities of AIR, it gets a kick start. The other tools wrap just the SWF file, so they must add features for file access and all the other things that AIR offers. Shu even offers an API for extending it, so you could add features yourself by writing a DLL on Windows or a dylib on Mac.
By wrapping your AIR application, the Shu player solves some of the problems faced by AIR developers, but it also introduces some problems that Projector tools have. Your application won't be platform independant and as an executable, it's more difficult to distribute over the web. We'll get back to this product with a full review shortly.
