Keith Peters will be reviving his 25 line Actionscript Contest - a great way to show off some skills and get yourself a copy of the upcoming Adobe CS4 Suite that will be announced September 23rd
Keith Peters has been on a trip down memory lane the last weeks and he is busy as ever. At FlashForward, he held a presentation titled Putting the Flash back in Flash and the 25 line Actionscript Contest follows nicely along this theme. This is not something new for Keith. He put on similar competitions back in 2002 as well, but this time he does it "properly" with solid prizes, a separate website and a draft for the rules.
In these days of AS3 bloat, this could prove a refreshing flashback to the time when coders showed their skills by cramming as much functionality as possible into as few bytes as possible, be it 5k, 64k or more. In Keith's case the basic rule is - as much as you can cram into 25 lines of Actionscript. Adobe's "old-school" Flash'er Lee Brimelow stepped up to the challenge and has secured great prizes from Adobe - full packages of the upcoming Adobe CS4. Not shabby for just 25 lines of code?
It's now been some years since there were similar competitions (such as the5k.org). If you've never taken part in something like this before, it's a great way to learn more. The source code submitted will be open for all to study. This will make this site a great place to improve your Actionscript skills.
For now, Keith is just looking for feedback, but at this rate, The 25-Line Actionscript Competition should kick off soon.
