Turbine Video Engine SDK 4
Blue Pacific recently announced a new version of their video encoding SDK that can be used to build custom video encoding workflows. Simple, affordable licensing and H.264 support are highlights of this release.
Blue Pacific is not a new company on the Flash scene. Their Rich Chart products for both client and server have been on the market for a long time and their serverside SWF/PHP generation software ASP Turbine and PHP Turbine took over where Macromedia left the ball.
Recently, the company have turned their focus to video and the Turbine Video Engine SDK 4 is their latest solution for building Youtube-like functionality. The Video Engine SDK can be used to convert from Windows Media (AVI, WMV, ASF, WMA, WAV, using any AVI/WM codecs like DIVX, XDIV, etc.); QuickTime (MOV, QT, DV, AAC, AIF/AIFF, using any QuickTime codecs) and MPEG (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, MP3) to Flash video. The list of features is solid: FLV Cue Points, FLV Metadata, gamma/brightness/contrast adjustments, deinterlacing, deblocking, FreeFrame video effects, overlays, constant and variable bitrates are also present, but On2's VP6 codec appears not to be supported?
Be aware of this as we've searched both the site and the SDK documentation without seeing VP6 mentioned. This can be a serious drawback for some potential customers as H.264 are only supported on about 60% of current Flash Players (Flash Player 9 update 3). This improves every day though, so it may not matter to your project.
The SDK is available with three different interfaces: a COM component, a .NET component and a linked library (DLL), making it usable from virtually any programming language like VB, VBScript, Delphi, C++, PHP, C#, PERL or similar languages on the Windows platform. The SDK is available in three versions with FLV, H.264 or FLV/H264 support. The product is also available in two standalone versions (desktop software) for clientside use.
